STOP BRUSHING YOUR TEETH!

STOP BRUSHING YOUR TEETH!

Have I got your attention?

You may be wondering why I would make such a ridiculous statement.
Of course we need to brush our teeth, change our oil, and talk to our loved ones.

Why?

In order for anything of value to remain healthy, it must be maintained.

Are not our spine and spinal cord as important as our teeth, car or relationships? Why do most
people not maintain their spines?

Did you know that your nervous system – brain, spinal cord and nerves – controls, coordinates
and heals every cell and organ of your body…both structure and function. The body
dysfunctions, develops disease and eventually dies without proper nerve flow.

Every day you are exposed to physical, emotional, and chemical stress. This stress places your
spine and spinal cord under tremendous pressure. This pressure causes tension in your spine
which interferes with normal organ function and your body’s ability to heal properly.

Unfortunately, this adverse pressure rarely causes pain or symptoms, yet, it always causes
interference, damage and dysfunction. This damage over time causes pain and symptoms.

Your spine must be maintained if you wish to keep it healthy, just as you maintain your teeth,
car, relationships and anything else you care for. What happens if you do not maintain these
things? They degenerate, decay and eventually break down.

Research shows that people under regular chiropractic care, including infants, children, teens,
adults and the elderly, get sick less often, handle stress better, have stronger immune systems,
and have an overall improved quality of life. Why? Because their spines are free of tension
and interference allowing all the signals from the brain, which control, coordinate and heal all
body structure and function, to reach their destination…the cells of the body.

If you are currently experiencing pain or chronic illness, can I assume that you are not
maintaining your spine?

If you do maintain your spine, I congratulate you. You are taking responsibility for your
health and taking proactive steps to improve your quality of life, prevent disease and injury
and achieve your optimum health potential.

If you are not maintaining your spine, waiting for a pain or problem to arise before going to
the chiropractor, the damage has already been done, and is very difficult to correct. Often it
is then too late and requires more severe measures such as drugs and surgery. When it comes to
health, the attitude of “don’t fix it ‘til its broke” rarely works.

By keeping your spine healthy before developing pain or disease, and maintaining a healthy spine
throughout your life, you will spend less time and money, preventing weeks, months or even years
of suffering.

Here are some tips for maintaining a Healthy Spine:

1. Chiropractic Care:
If you wish to maintain a healthy spine, first all chronic tension and interference must be
corrected. Once the spine is healthy and free of tension and interference, it is as simple as
getting adjusted 1 to 4 per month, depending on your individual needs. By doing this, you can
guarantee yourself a lifetime of optimum health and vitality.

2. Stress Reduction Strategies
There are many strategies to help reduce stress tension in the body and body, including meditating
and deep breathing.  If you wish to explore I very effective strategy I utilize in my own life, check out
Self Discovery Techniques.

3. Healthy Nutrition

  • Drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces of Filtered water every day.
  • Read food labels and don’t eat anything which has ingredients that do not sound like food.
(i.e. monosodium glutamate, blue #6, anything bleached, etc.)
  • Eat food in the following ratio:  75% or more Alkaline Foods – 25% or less Acid Foods.
Alkaline foods are fruits and veggies…Acid is everything else.
(Exceptions: Almonds, Millet and Salmon tend toward Alkaline…pomegranates are Acid fruits

4. Proper Sleep Posture
Sleep on your side or back…never on your belly.  If on your side, a pillow between your knees and cradled
in your arms helps reduce pressure in your spine.  If on your back, a pillow under your knees also reduces
spinal tension.  Also, make sure your pillow is the right size.   If on your back, your head should be slightly raised.
If on your side, your head should be level with your shoulders.

5. Basic Workspace Ergonomics

·         Back of chair should have good lumbar support

·         Seat height should be so that knees and hips are at 90 degree levels

·         Computer monitor should be directly in front of you with the top of the monitor and or below eye level

·         Desk height and chair height should be so that the elbows are 90 degree angles when typing, and hands, forearms and wrists in a straight line.

·         Sit with head and neck in an upright position, even when on phone (no holding with cheek)

·         When typing, keep shoulders relaxed and elbow close to body.

·         Ample space between legs and desk

·         Use a document holder next to monitor when typing.
Please give us a call and we would be happy to allow you to come in for a spinal check-up and
consultation with the doctor at a discounted rate. The doctor will sit down with you, listen to
your needs, do a complete spinal evaluation and recommend a plan which is best for you.

Don’t let your spine degenerate as your teeth, car engine or relationships do if you don’t
maintain them. Maintain your spine and reach your optimum health potential.

A Beautiful Testimonial: What My Practice is All About

A Beautiful Testimonial:

What My Practice is All About

“I originally came to Dr. Barry Weinberg and A Place for Healing because I suffered from vertigo, migraines and lower backaches.  Lots of work stress and taking lots of medications.

Since receiving Network Chiropractic care, I’m off my meds…less tension in my back and neck.  I’m much more aware of my mind and body.  I experience very little headaches.  I used to have an episode of vertigo about every other month, but now I’ve had only 2 minor attacks during the year I’ve been coming.

I feel energetic physically and mentally under Dr. Weinberg’s care.  I now have peace and am stress free.”

~ Linda Damon
——–
This beautiful testimonial demonstrates what my practice is all about. People who have been to my practice know that I am not about fixing anything or making pain go away. Yet, when the spine and nervous system are free of tension and interference, the body seems to “magically” heal and pain, illness and injury leave the body. People who have been to my practice know that I don’t usually give instruction on nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle habits. Yet, when the spine and nervous system are free of tension and interference, people seem to “magically” know what changes they need to make in their lifestyle and make those changes.

People who have been to my practice know that I am not a counselor, life coach or therapist. Yet, when the spine and nervous system are free of tension and interference, anxiety, depression and fear tend to “magically” fade and they experience more mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

This is what my practice is all about.

Through the gentle, honoring contacts I apply to the spine with Network Spinal Analysis chiropractic care, people connect more with their bodies and develop new strategies to release tension, use tension to create change and become more adaptable to life. Through this process, not only does the body heal, but people experience more well-being in all areas of their life in a way that they never experienced before.

This is what my practice is all about.

Empowering people to heal themselves by finding the message in their pain, tension, illness, or injury and using it as a guide and the fuel to make subtle changes in their life that produce dramatic, positive results.

This is what life is all about.

This is what I am all about.

This is what my practice is all about.

With Love,

Dr Barry

The Chiropractic Meaning of Life

From The Chiropractic Textbook by R.W. Stephenson, 1927

Universal Intelligence is in all matter and continually gives to it all the properties and actions. The expression of this intelligence through matter is the Chiropractic meaning of life; therefore life is necessarily the union of intelligence and matter. Force unites intelligence and matter. Universal Intelligence gives force to both inorganic and organic matter.

That force which Universal gives to organic matter as a higher order of its manifestations, is called Innate Intelligence.  The mission of Innate Intelligence is to maintain the material of the body of the organic unit in active organization. It does this by adapting the forces of universal, (which as physical laws are unswerving and unadapted and have no solicitude for matter) so they can be used in the body; so that all parts will have co-ordinated action, thus every part has mutual benefit.

This work of Innate is entirely Mental. For this reason the forces of Innate never injure or destroy the tissues. The forces of Innate are mental for they are far superior to physical forces, because they control physical forces.

This assembling of universal forces is called Creation, for they have definite form and purpose, eventually.

The headquarters of Innate’s control, in the body, is the brain, and the definite unit of this is called Brain Cell.  From the brain cell as a unit, Innate controls a unit of matter.

In the brain cell as a physical workshop of material, Innate Transforms the mental force into a definite unit, for a given tissue cell, for a given moment.

This specific force, when transformed, is a force which is either a physical energy or a form that controls or sets into action, physical energies. It is called Mental Impulse.

The departure of the mental impulse from the brain cell is called  Propulsion.  If it is like a physical energy, it requires effort. The forces of Innate Intelligence operate through or over the nervous system.

That which has efferent direction and which conducts the mental impulse is called Efferent Nerve.

Since the physical energies can suffer interruption in their transmission, in a like manner, the forces of Innate can suffer interference with transmission; and that is the basis for the existence of Chiropractic. This comparison, also, is the basis of some theories, which contend that the mental impulse is a physical force and therefore subject to the same laws as any other physical force; but it should always be remembered that these physical energies are in the  adapted form  (if this theory is used) and therefore not injurious to tissue as electricity would be. The conveyance of the mental impulse over the efferent nerve is Transmission.

Over this route of specialized material the mental impulse travels to Tissue Cell where it is Received, whereupon the mental conception of Innate, as to what that cell should be or how it should act, comes to pass. That which was only mental, now becomes a physical fact.

It shows by its very character that an intelligence planned the form or the action, and this evidence of intelligence is called Expression; meaning the coming forth through matter; the showing of intelligence. Things which show this are said to be alive and such expression is called life.

The character of this action is determined by the character of the tool used by Innate to express herself, therefore the purpose or the action of this tool which is the tissue cell, is Function.  The function of matter is to express force. In the tissue cell, which is a specific kind of matter, the specific forces of Innate are expressed in a specific manner by an instrument built for the particular kind of expression.

The prompt and correct action of that tissue cell, being actuated by Innate’s specific force in harmony with all other cells, is called Coordination.  In this, we see the working of the law of cause and effect, and that every process requires time.

In order to perform its function, the tissue cell has motion, both molecular and as a whole cell. This movement is called  Vibration.

These vibrations give off physical forces which are impressed upon the afferent nerve as a form of force called Impression.

These impressions are transmitted over the Afferent Nerve.

This Transmission  is similar to transmission in the efferent half of the cycle, for the forces are similar.

When it reaches the afferent  Brain Cell,  it is  Received much in the same manner as the tissue cell receives, for brain cell is a tissue cell, after all.

When this force has reached brain cell, it is immediately admitted into the Mental realm by Mental Interpretation.

The product of this act of interpretation by Innate is a Sensation.

When Innate has a number of sensations, she has a correct image of the condition of the tissue cell and this is named Ideation. Ideation can be the possession of nothing but intelligence.

The intelligence in the body, of course, is Innate Intelligence.

When Innate Intelligence knows what the tissue cell needs, she plans ways and means to make it adapt to its environmental conditions and the mental process of doing this is Intellectual Adaptation.

The great source of supply from which Innate draws her forces is UNIVERSAL INTELLIGENCE.   `

Top 3 Questions asked about Network Spinal Analysis

1)     How is Network different from “Regular” chiropractic?

Network Spinal Analysis is the evolution of chiropractic.  It is the most advanced, most effective, and most efficient chiropractic protocol available today.  Before we differentiate between Network and other methods of chiropractic, let us first define “Chiropractic.”

Chiropractic is a philosophy of health which states that the body is innately intelligent and self-healing.

Chiropractic is a science which states that the nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves) controls and coordinates all body functions and healing. The brain sends life supporting information through the spinal cord and nerves to all the cells, tissues and organs of the body.  Adverse tension and pressure in the nervous system, referred to as “vertebral subluxations,” interferes with the flow of this information resulting in dysfunction in the cells and tissues of the body, eventually leading to dis-ease and death.

Chiropractic is an art which analyzes the spine for the presence of adverse tension and pressure in the nervous system and through a variety of methods, corrects it.

The majority of chiropractic techniques that are currently available proclaim that the tension and interference referred to above is caused by a misaligned bone in the spine, called a vertebra.  Using  direct forces to the spine to put that bone “back in place,” it will remove the interference, restoring health.  This is “regular” chiropractic.

Network Spinal Analysis states that the misaligned bone is caused  by the underlying adverse tension in the nerve tissue, muscles and joints.  By repositioning the misaligned bone, without first removing the tension, you will be “fighting” the body.  Network therefore uses very gentle touches on very specific areas of the spine to bring the areas of adverse tension to a state of ease.  By using just the right amount of force, it allows the body to respond, rather than react.

Through this process, the brain and body actually learns strategies to be more self-aware, self-regulating and self-correcting.  By bringing the attention of the conscious mind to the areas of tension, and developing strategies of breath and movement, the nervous system is “entrained” to handle stress better, be more self-correcting and have an enhanced experience of life.

Rather than receiving “treatments” of a therapeutic nature from a “fix-it” doctor, you are receiving “entrainment lessons” from a healing teacher – the true definition of  “doctor.”

2)      How can such a light touch do anything?

In life, when you are in the right place, at the right time, applying the right amount of force, with the right intent, magic happens.  Whether in relationships, business or healing, in order for there to be optimum results, these four factors must be in alignment.

In Network Chiropractic, we apply this principle.  If you are on the wrong place on the spine, at the wrong time, with too much or too little force, with the wrong intent, the body will react.  However, if you are on the exact right spot on the exact right vertebra, at just the right time, matching the force of the body, in the right direction with the right intent – the body responds…and it does so, beautifully.

What do I mean by “matching the force of the body?”  Have you ever shook someone’s hand and it was like a limp fish?  Or you shook their hand and you felt like they wanted to squeeze the bones out of your fingertips.  This is not matching the force.  When two people have a good handshake, they match the force…they have rapport and it feels good.

The Network Protocol is a very specific spinal analysis which determines that exact right place on the spine to contact in a distinct sequence so that we are always doing it at the right time.  This “right place” is called the “spinal gateway” and it is an area of free energy in the spine from which the spinal tension is being generated, usually found in the neck or sacrum. A force is then applied by matching the force that the body is pushing back when you touch it.  We “shake its hand” with rapport.

How does such a gentle touch knock down 2 Million dominoes with such a gentle touch?  By lining them up in a certain sequence, it only takes a gentle touch.

By applying this gentle, quick force to this specific area of the spine, in the right sequence, the brain is made aware of the adverse tension and through movement and breath the body begins to innately work to integrate the free energy in the “spinal gateway” to free up the bound up energy that is being store in the muscles, joints, or nerve tissue.

The light touch actually doesn’t “do anything,” but bring the attention of the cognitive brain to an area it was previously disassociated from, and the body does the rest. Wow!   This is the right intent.  To make the person more aware of where and when the body holds tension and help them to develop strategies to be more self-regulating of this tension.

3)      Can chiropractic help someone with cancer, Parkinson’s disease, AIDS, MS, etc., etc., etc.?

The answer to this questions is Yes…and no.  If you mean, “Can Chiropractic ‘cure’ these ailments?” Then the answer is no.  If instead you mean, “Can chiropractic assist someone to heal from these conditions?”  Then the answer is an emphatic yes.

It is known today that the human body is capable of healing any disease or condition.  It is important to understand that every disease known to medical science is caused by one of two things:  1) The body and mind’s inability to adapt and respond appropriately to a physical trauma, emotional stress, or chemical toxicity;  and/or 2)  The body and mind’s inability to recover from an adaptation or response to a physical trauma, emotional stress, or chemical toxicity.

Network chiropractic not only assists people to recover from past traumas and stresses, but research shows that when an individual is under Network care they have a stronger immune system, quicker recovery time from injury and illness, and greater ability to handle stress.

However, even if chiropractic did not change these conditions, if that individual had tension and interference in the spinal cord and nerves, do you think they would be better off with the tension and interference or without?  Obviously, you will answer, “Without.”  Therefore, the person will be helped and have an improved quality of life while in Network Care, regardless if the disease or ailment is “cured.”  While the disease may not be helped, the person will be.

Dr Barry

The Cause of All Disease and All Health

Our Three Brains

Did you know we have three brains?  Actually, we have one brain made up of three integrated parts.  The first brain is the Brain Stem or Reptile Brain.  This is the Survival Brain.  It controls all functions responsible for our survival – as an individual and as a species.  It controls such things as hunger, thirst, heart beat, breathing, digestion, immunity, and sexual drive.  It is the basic, primal part of us that is in all animals – Give Me Food…Give Me Shelter…Give Me Sex!  Most importantly in regards to this article, it initiates the Fight-or-Flight Stress Response.

Our second brain is the Limbic System or Mammal Brain.  It is in all mammals and is composed of such interestingly named parts such as the amygdala, hippocampus and thalamus.  This is our Emotional Brain.  It controls all functions related to emotional aspects of survival.  It controls such things as memory, behavior, pleasure and pain responses, and experience of all emotions.  Most importantly in regards to this article, it maintains the Fight-or-Flight Stress Response and initiates the Defense Posture.

The third brain is the Cerebral Cortex or Human Brain.  It is in “most” humans and is evident in other mammals, especially apes, dolphins and whales.  This is the convoluted part we see in monster movies sitting in a jar.  It is our Thinking Brain.  It controls all functions related to higher thought.  It controls such things as decision making, attention, awareness, language, judgment, reading, writing, etc.  It is the center of higher thought.   Most importantly in regards to this article, it is impaired by the Fight-or-Flight Stress Response and Defense Posture.

 The Fight-or-Flight Stress Response

Every moment, our brain is assessing the world around us and asking one question: “Am I Safe?”  This question is asked on all three levels:  Intellectually, Emotionally and Survival.  If at any moment the brain determines you are in danger on any of these three levels, it sends out an alert to the body and the Fight-or-Flight Stress Response occurs.  Mechanisms of survival are activated by the Brain Stem to prepare you to face the situation or run away.  This occurs whether we are being chased by a lion, taking a final exam, seeing flashing lights in our rear view mirror, or touched in an inappropriate way by clergy.  It occurs any time the brain determines, “Danger!”

Here is the Stress Response in a Nutshell:

  • Adrenalin is Released (Provides More Energy)
  • Blood Sugar Elevates (Provides More Energy)
  • Blood Pressure Rises (Provides More Oxygen to Muscles)
  • Pulse Increases (Provides More Oxygen to Muscles)
  • Muscles Tense (Provides Readiness for Action)
  • Pupils Dilate (See More In Less Light)
  • Immunity turns off (These three functions use a lot
  • Digestion turns off of energy and are not necessary
  • Sexual Function turns off for our immediate survival.)

This quote from Kurt Vonnegut’s “Breakfast of Champions” described the process well:

“My mind sent a message to my hypothalamus, told it to release the hormone CRFinto the short vessels connecting my hypothalamus and my pituitary gland. The CRF inspired my pituitary gland to dump the hormone ACTH into my bloodstream. My pituitary had been making and storing ACTH for just such an occasion. And nearer and nearer the zeppelin came.

And some of the ACTH in my bloodstream reached the outer shell of my adrenal gland, which had been making and storing glucocorticoids for emergencies. My adrenal gland added the glucocorticoids to my bloodstream. They went all over my body changing glycogen into glucose. Glucose was muscle food. It would help me fight like a wild cat or run like a deer. And nearer and nearer the zeppelin came.

My adrenal gland gave me a shot of adrenaline, too. I turned purple as my blood pressure skyrocketed. The adrenaline made my heart go like a burglar alarm. It also stood my hair on end. It also caused coagulants to pour into my bloodstream, so, in case I was wounded, my vital juices wouldn’t drain away. Everything my body had done so far fell within normal operating procedures for a human machine.

But my body took one defensive measure which I am told was without precedent in medical history. It may have happened because some wire short-circuited or some gasket blew. At any rate, I also retracted my testicles into my abdominal cavity pulled them into my fuselage like the landing gear of an airplane. And now they tell me that only surgery will bring them down again.”

These are all appropriate responses to survive an attack from a lion or any other danger.  However, once the danger is gone and the stress is over, these body functions should return to a state of balance and the body should move into a state of safety.

This paragraph is the most important in this article…so pay attention:  If during these stressful events, the Emotional Brain or Limbic System is involved (we feel fear, anger, resentment, etc.), it then sends a message to the Brain Stem to maintain the Stress Response to keep us safe, just in case such a situation ever happens again.  Over time, this develops into  what is called Defense Posture.

According to the Center for Disease Control, this is the cause of 95% of all disease and is directly what Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) addresses.  NSA helps people move from Stress Physiology and Defense Posture to a state of Safety and Growth.

The Cause of 95% of Disease?
How Come?

If you look at the list of responses in Stress Physiology, it is immediately apparent that long term these are our most common chronic ailments:

  • Adrenalin is Released              (Anxiety/Depression)
  • Blood Sugar Elevates              (Diabetes)
  • Blood Pressure Rises               (Hypertension)
  • Pulse Increases                         (Cardiac Arrhythmia)
  • Muscles Tense                            (Fibromyalgia, Neck and Back Pain, etc.)
  • Pupils Dilate                                (Far-vision)
  • Immunity turns off                   (All immune related diseases)
  • Digestion turns off                     (Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Indigestion, etc.)
  • Sexual Function turns off         (Impotency, Infertility)

When the body and brain are locked in stress physiology and defense posture, we react as if the stress that caused it is still occurring, even though it may be decades in our past.  In this state, health and healing are impossible, and our quality of life and degree of wellness greatly diminishes.

Not only does this effect us physically, it effects us emotionally and mentally as well.

A Brain is a Terrible Thing to Waste

When our brain and body are locked in Defense, blood supply to the Cerebral Cortex is diminished.  Our ability to experience higher thought, make decisions and place our attention on those things that are important to us is impaired.

When our Limbic System is locked in Defense, we are more apt to experience fear, anger and sadness than we are to feel joy, peace and love.  We experience a higher degree of separation from ourselves and those around us.  We become numb to what we are feeling in our bodies and our hearts.

Since we are still reacting to stresses and events from the past, we lose our ability to respond and adapt appropriately to changes in the present.  We feel stressed out all the time and we get sick often and easily.  We may feel locked in a job, relationship or other circumstance that we can not change.  As Thoreau wrote so eloquently, we begin living lives of “quiet desperation.”

The Solution

Help the brain and body develop new strategies to self-assess and regulate its own tension, move from defense into safety, and more effectively adapt to stresses and change so as to cause growth  instead of defense.

Enter the Spinal Gateway

If you’re working on my spine, why do you always look at my feet and feel my ankles?  Why do you always want me to turn my head left and right?  Why do you ask me to tuck my chin? All of these actions are part of Network Spinal Analysis to find a very special point on your spine called the Spinal Gateway.

Hey…do you mind if I talk a little R-rated with you for a moment. Have you ever been in a room with someone you were sexually attracted to, when suddenly they touch you on a special place on your body, or Errogenous Zone, that made all the days worries disappear.  Your mind suddenly blanks and your body begins to melt into a big pile of mush?

The Spinal Gateway is a “Heal-ogenous” Zone and has a similar effect on your brain, spine and nervous system.  In a body that is stuck in the Stress Response and Defense Posture, NSA helps us to find the one or two tiny spots (Spinal Gateways) amidst the tension on the spine that are free, in safety, and most important, possess energy available for healing and growth.

When an area of the spine is locked in defense, we feel tense and tight in this area.  The energy is locked up and not available.  It is invested in defending us from DANGER!

So…how does such a gentle touch make such a giant change in our health and wellness?  By placing a gentle force exactly at the Spinal Gateway, for just a moment, the Higher Brain (Cerebral Cortex) is alerted to a place in the body that has been forgotten, but safe, and has a lot of free energy to share.  As we gently touch the Spinal Gateway (like the Errogenous Zone), the body drops its defenses and realizes we are safe.  The areas in defense actually learn from the Spinal Gateway.  Suddenly, we may take a deep breath or feel tension release from our shoulders or low back.  We may feel tingly or electrical sensations.  We may feel a desire to move or take a bi-i-i-i-g stretch.

Over time, with guidance from the NSA practitioner through the Three Levels of Care, your brain and body develop strategies of breath and movement to self-assess and regulate its own tension, move from defense into safety, and adapt more effectively to stresses and change, causing growth instead of defense.

 The Research
